Three 16-year-olds from India are among the 7 winners of The Earth Prize 2026 representing the regions of North America, Africa, Asia, Central and South America, Oceania and Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East, one of the being announced each day of this week.
The Asian Winners invented “Plas-Stick,” a simple, low-cost powder made from waste tamarind seeds that pulls invisible microplastics out of drinking water so they can be removed with a small magnet. Designed for shared water containers in rural communities without advanced filtration, their biodegradable solution needs no electricity and will now receive 12,500 dollars in funding to scale and develop further.

At a time when more than 2.2 billion people lack safely managed drinking water, this youth-led innovation shows how creativity, science and compassion can turn an everyday local problem into a practical step towards global environmental justice.
The Geneva-based Earth Foundation's flagship initiative 'Earth Prize' is the world’s largest environmental competition and ‘ideas incubator’ that empowers, educates and inspires young people to tackle environmental challenges.
